Alfred
- 835 A.D. bands of Danes began raiding
- =>they wanted to resist
- They chose the leader "Alfred"(King of Wessex)
- Known as a Alfred the Great he became the King of England
- Between Danes and Alfred was treaty
- =>Danes ruled the north part of the country

- He re-built London
- Issued new Laws (Anglo Saxons Customs)
- Well educated=> wanted others to be educated
- School for sons of government positions
- Translated books from Latin to English
